I love to have the kids do a clay boats activity in which they are working for the Sloat and Fink Boat company. One of my first grade kids made a poster on her own at night advertising this company. It was big and pink with lots of stickers.
To teach wind we graph "Will the wind make it blow?" I bring in a fan and each child takes a turn holding and releasing an object in front of it. We then tape the object to our graph labeled "yes" or "no."
